ChainSpell Privacy Policy
Effective date: 4 October 2026
ChainSpell is a word game made by Iftekhar Khan, an individual developer (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what the game collects, why, who can see it, and how to have it deleted.
The short version: ChainSpell has no accounts and no email sign-up. It gives each install a random ID so your scores can appear on the leaderboards. Your username and country are optional, and they are public if you set them. The game shows ads, and they are only personalised using tracking if you allow it.
What ChainSpell collects
A random player ID
The first time you use an online feature (the leaderboards or online duels), the game creates an anonymous player ID: a long random code with no link to your name, email, phone number or Apple ID. It is saved on your device so that you keep the same ID each time you play.
This ID appears alongside your scores in the public leaderboard data.
Username and country (optional)
If you choose a username (up to 14 characters) or a country, they appear next to your scores and rating on the public leaderboards. You pick your country from a list. ChainSpell never uses your location and does not work out your country for you. If you set neither, other players see you as “Player” with no flag.
Please don’t use your real full name or any other personal information as your username. Offensive usernames are filtered. If you see one that got through, tap it on a leaderboard or in your match history and choose Report name. That opens an email to support@chainspell.app in your own mail app, filled in with the name, where you saw it and that player’s ID. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and sending it shares your email address with me, which I use only to deal with the report.
Blocking
If you block a player, I store that you blocked them, the username they had at the time, and when. Only you can see who you have blocked; the other player is not told. The game uses it so that the two of you are never matched in ranked duels, and it shows their name as “Blocked player” on your leaderboards. You can unblock anyone in Settings, which deletes the record.
Game results
- Endless mode: your best score in each season.
- Ranked duels: your rating, wins, losses, win streaks and number of games played in each season.
- Online duels: who played whom, when, and the result, plus every word played and how long each one took. The move record lets the game settle the result fairly and check for cheating.
- Matchmaking: while you search for an opponent, your rating and how long you have been waiting. This entry is deleted when you are matched or stop searching.
Technical information
Like almost every online service, the server that runs ChainSpell’s online features automatically records the IP address and device information sent with each request. These records are used for security and troubleshooting and are kept only briefly.
What stays on your device
Most of the game never leaves your phone: your settings, experience, gold, energy, items, character, unlocks, rewards and match history (including opponents' names). Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Reminders (such as “your energy is full”) are scheduled on your device. No notification data is sent to me or anyone else.
Who can see your information
- Everyone: your username, country, player ID, scores and ranked record appear on the public leaderboards, including those of finished seasons.
- Your opponent: the words you played in a duel you both took part in.
- Only you: the players you have blocked.
- Me: everything listed above, to run the game and deal with problems or cheating.
- My service provider: ChainSpell’s online features run on Supabase, which stores this data on my behalf on servers located in Canada (the ca-central-1 region). Supabase processes it only to provide that service.
I do not sell your information. Advertising is covered in its own section below.
How long it is kept
Leaderboard and duel records are kept until you ask for them to be deleted, because finished seasons remain viewable as a permanent record. Matchmaking entries are deleted as soon as they are no longer needed.
Deleting your information
Email support@chainspell.app and ask for your ChainSpell data to be deleted. Include your Support ID, which you can copy from the game’s Settings screen, so I can find your records exactly. If you have already deleted the app, give your username, your country if you set one, and roughly when you last played instead. I will delete your player ID and everything linked to it, including your leaderboard entries, ratings and duel history, and confirm by email. I aim to do this within 30 days.
You can also ask me what information I hold about you, or ask me to correct it. You can change your username or country at any time in the game. The change reaches the ranked ladder the next time you search for a duel, and the Endless leaderboard the next time you beat your best score that season. Finished seasons keep the name you had at the time; email me to change or remove it there.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device, including your Support ID, but it does not delete the online records described above. If you want those deleted too, copy your Support ID before deleting the app.
Children
ChainSpell is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has entered personal information as a username, email me and I will delete it.
Advertising
ChainSpell shows ads, including optional ads you can watch for in-game rewards. They are provided by Google AdMob.
To show and measure ads, and to prevent ad fraud, Google may collect:
- your device’s advertising identifier, only if you allow tracking when the app asks;
- your IP address, from which an approximate location can be worked out;
- device information such as model, operating system and language;
- which ads you see and interact with, and how you use the app, such as when you open it and where you tap;
- diagnostic information, such as crashes and how well the ads perform.
You are in control of tracking. ChainSpell asks your permission before allowing ads that are personalised using information from other companies' apps and websites. If you decline, you still see ads, but they are not personalised using that tracking. You can change your choice at any time in your iPhone’s Settings, under Privacy & Security → Tracking.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the app also asks for your consent to personalised ads before any are shown. You can change that choice at any time in the app’s Settings, under Ad privacy choices.
If you live in a US state with its own privacy law, such as California, Colorado or Virginia, you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for advertising: open the app’s Settings and tap Ad privacy choices. You still see ads, but they are not personalised using that information.
Google’s use of this information is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy, and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services explains its advertising in more detail. I do not receive your advertising identifier and cannot link ads to your player ID.
In-app purchases
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. I never see your name, Apple ID or payment details. The game receives only a confirmation of what was bought, which it uses to unlock the purchase on your device; nothing about your purchases is sent to my server. Apple’s handling of payments is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
If I change this policy, I will update the date at the top and post the new version at this address. If a change affects how your information is used, I will also mention it in the app’s update notes.
